The Measure
Three fingers.
That’s the measure.
Old barmen knew it long before units existed. You held the glass, you laid three fingers against it, and you poured to the top of them. Not precise. Intentional.
Every hand is different, which is rather the point. The measure belongs to whoever is pouring.
It’s not about how much. It’s about enough.
AD 345
Three fingers, carried
to the ends of the earth.
Saint Regulus took three fingers of the apostle Andrew and sailed west until the map ran out. He was wrecked on a cold shore in Fife. The town that grew there took the saint’s name. The measure became ours.
